Royal Malaysia Police or Royal Malaysian Police?

I COMMUTE everyday from Kajang to KL and notice a huge billboard stating “Royal Malaysia Police Academy”. As they are using “royal” shouldn’t they use “Malaysian”? Can “Malaysia” be used? – Mie, Kajang

It should be “Royal Malaysian Police Academy”, since the word before “police” should be an adjective, like the word “royal”, and not a noun.

The English language version of the website of the Police headquarters at Bukit Aman uses “The Royal Malaysian Police” to describe the police force here, as seen in the following quotation:

“The Royal Malaysian Police or Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) in Malay, is a main branch of security forces in Malaysia.... Our headquarters is located in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur.”

The online directory of museums in Malaysia lists the police museum as the “Royal Malaysian Police Museum”.

There are also several references on the Internet to the “Royal Malaysian Police Academy” whose headquarters is in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur.
