Between of To
Sometimes it can be very confusing when to use 'between or 'to'
Here is a simple explanation.
'Between' must be followed by 'and'.
'From' must be followed by 'to'.
For example:

What is Thesis Statement?
A simple definition for Thesis Statement would be this;
The thesis statement is a sentence in your essay that contains the focus of your essay and tells your reader what the essay is going to be about.
For example:
Expository Essay Thesis Statement
Topic/Title: Explain why a healthy diet is important.
Weak Thesis Examples:

Effective Presentation Skills: Don't Panic

If you panic at the thought of making a presentation, you are not alone. Several studies have shown that public speaking is the thing that people fear most – more than snakes, flying or even death. That means that, at a funeral, most people would rather be in the coffin than making the eulogy!
How can you get over this fear? Here are some tips:
Get there early. Make sure you get familiar with the room. Stand where you are going to give your presentation until you begin to feel relaxed standing there. Try out the audiovisual equipment you will be using.
Introduce yourself to as many members of the audience as you can before you start. This helps turn the audience into a group of friendly faces rather than a wall of strangers.
Whilst you are doing this, pick out a couple of ‘friendly faces’. During the presentation, maintain regular eye-contact with your ‘new friends’.
Keep a photo of a child, a spouse (a boyfriend or girlfriend maybe) or a pet near you. Look at it from time to time for reassurance.Breathe deeply and rhythmically. This will bring oxygen into your system, relax your throat and help you breath more slowly.
Act confidently even if you are not feeling confident. You will find yourself becoming confident.
Wear a rubber band around your wrist. Snap it if you are feeling negative thoughts.
Remember that it will soon be over. Twenty minutes is not very long in your lifetime!

I often hear people use boring instead of bored. One workshop participant was blatantly honest with me when she said 'My boss made me come here but I didn't want to attend because I think I'm going to be very boring'.
Hmmm... I think she meant she thought she was going to be very bored.
She could only be bored if I was boring!

Lazy Friday

Put the chocolate in a bowl and place over a pan of boiling water, stir occasionally as the chocolate melts. Wash the strawberries but leave the stalks on for decoration and something to hold. Wash clean then dry the strawberries with a paper towel.Dip the strawberries in the melted and still warm chocolate and then place on grease proof kitchen baking paper. Leave the chocolate dipped strawberries to set, if the weather is warm place in the fridge for 15 minutes.
It's so easy to make isn't it.... yummmyyyyy...

The usage of "As per..." (Usually found in formal letter writing)
According to Shirley Taylor, it is old-fashioned and overworked. We should not use 'per' in our writing.
Instead of
As per your request.... say 'As you requested'
As per your agreement... say 'As we agreed'
As per your instructions... say 'As you instructed'
well... that's all... hope it's useful for you....

It is wrong to say, "There are six alphabets in sensei".
"There are six letters in sensei"
There is only ONE alphabet in English Language - abcdefghijklmnopkrstuvwxyz - and there are 26 letters in the alphabet.

I spotted something interesting from my feedjit live traffic feed (side bar of this blog). From that traffic feed I saw there was one reader of this blog from Sambir, L'vivs'ka Oblast' !
Huhhh????? Where in the world is that place??
After some googling work... now I know Sambir, L'vivs'ka Oblast is in Ukraine!!! Wow!!
Sambir is actually a city in the Lviv Oblast , western Ukraine , close to the border with Poland .
Hmmmm... thanx to that visitor, now I've gained some knowledge about Sambir.

In Example 2, take, rather than bring, is used because the direction of the action is away from the speaker.

These abbreviations are Latin in origin.
Of all grammatical errors, misuse of these abbreviations is the one most commonly encountered. Time and again one reads things like: "Any beverage, i.e., tea ..." The writer intends to say, "Any beverage, for example, tea ...", but actually says, "Any beverage, that is, tea ...", which is wrong because although tea is a beverage there are many beverages other than tea.
Use "e.g." when you want to give an example (or several examples) of something just mentioned.
Use "i.e." when you wish to explain briefly or to clarify what you just said, or say the same thing in other words.
E.g., "Take any common object at hand, e.g., a pen, and apply your latent psychokinetic powers to it (i.e., try to cause it to move by the power of your will)."

This is something I got from my email...
Really amazing and unbelieveable...
This is amazing tree named 'Nareepol' in Thai. Naree means 'girl/woman' and pol means plant/tree or 'buah' in Malay. It means women tree. It is amazing what God create the World in many forms that amused human beings.... You can see the real tree at Petchaboon province about almost 500 kms away from Bangkok
Do you believe this kind of tree/fruit exists? Can anyone verify whether these photos are real or not....

The images show what appears to be small, perfectly formed figures of women "growing" from amid the leaves of the tree.Many people apparently believe that the Nareepol Tree and its improbable fruit really exists and, although they have never seen it "in the flesh" (so to speak), some have even come to regard it as a sacred object.
However, the Nareepol Tree is almost certainly nothing more than a hoax. If such an amazing phenomenon was real, the tree would undoubtedly be quite famous and there would be many media reports published about it all around the world. The scientific community and religious groups would also have examined the tree and published their findings. Instead, the only information about the alleged Nareepol Tree is in versions of the above message.
Moreover, the three photographs above appear to be the only images of the tree available. Given the self-publishing power provided by the Internet, if the tree was real, there would surely be myriad photographs of the tree available on many different blogs, travel websites and photo sharing websites.
According to the message, the Nareepol Tree is located in the Petchaboon province. So, if the tree and its fruit really existed, it would likely be a major tourist attraction for the region and promoted as such. However, the tree is not listed as an attraction on any credible travel related websites for the Petchaboon province.
Thus, it seems very probable that some unknown prankster has created the hoax by cleverly attaching a few man-made figurines to an ordinary tree's branches and then taking some photographs to document his "creation".
The junction where each "fruit" joins the branch is conveniently obscured by leaves, perhaps to hide the wire or twine that holds it aloft. And, the figures look too uniform to be natural. Except for the positioning of the arms, each piece of "fruit" is virtually identical in size and colour. Real fruit is likely to vary considerably in size, hue and quality, even when growing on the same tree.
The description of the Nareepol Tree and the photographs of its "fruit" are amusing and the message is basically harmless so long as recipients do not take its claims seriously.
So... this is just a hoax!

Wordwise: Blood
BLOOD is the very essence of life. It is little wonder that ‘blood’ expressions relate to so many aspects of our life.

Some of these ‘blood’ expressions can help you to describe your moods, emotions, temperaments and even ancestry in a more creative way.
1. Blood
It can be used to refer to the race or social class of someone’s parents or ancestors.
Jean can sing very well as she has Filipino blood in her veins.
2. Bad blood
If you say there is bad blood between people, it means that they have argued and dislike each other.
There is bad blood between Boon Seng and Chee Kin because of their gambling disputes.
3. Cold blood
It is used to describe something which is done deliberately and in an unemotional way.
The spy was shot in cold blood.
4. It makes one’s blood boil
If something makes your blood boil, it makes you very angry.
Students who consistently do not pass up their work will make a teacher’s blood boil.
5. Makes your blood run cold/freeze
If something makes your blood run cold, it makes you feel very frightened.

A fireman became a hero after he caught a woman, threatening to commit suicide earlier, who slipped from the top floor of a three-storey shophouse. The 25-year-old woman had threatened to take her own life by jumping off the building in Taman Pelangi here at about 8.25am Thursday. ----- The Star OnlineTaken from thestar.com.my
JOHOR BARU: A fireman became a hero after he caught a woman, threatening to commit suicide earlier, who slipped from the top floor of a three-storey shophouse.
The 25-year-old woman had threatened to take her own life by jumping off the building in Taman Pelangi here at about 8.25am Thursday.
The 12 firemen who had rushed to the scene from the Larkin fire station tried to coax her from jumping while they put up airbags and other safety measures.
However, after 50 minutes, the woman slipped from the ledge and fell while screaming “Allah hu akbar” (God is great).
However, operations commander C. Kesaven dashed forward and broke her fall. She fell into his arms.
Kesaven said that the woman did not sustain any major injury and has since been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for further examination.
“We discovered that she had been renting a room on the third floor of the building. We believe that she had some recent marital problems,” he said.
He added that the woman had earlier locked the door to her room, which prevented firemen from entering and rescuing her from the ledge.
“We did not want to break the door down, fearing the shock or tremors might cause her to fall,” he added.
